Dorzolamide 2% eye drops are used to treat conditions where pressure inside the eye is raised.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Open-angle glaucoma
• Ocular hypertension (high eye pressure without damage yet)
• Used alone or along with other eye drops to control eye pressure

HOW IT WORKS

• It reduces the production of fluid (aqueous humour) inside the eye
• Lowering fluid production reduces pressure inside the eye
• Lower eye pressure helps protect the optic nerve from damage

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for eye infections
• Not used for eye redness caused by allergy or irritation
• Not used for treating cataracts
• Not a painkiller and not used for eye injuries
• Not a substitute for emergency treatment of sudden severe eye pain or vision loss

How to Use Dorzolamide 2%

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only in the eye(s) as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash your hands before using the drops
• Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and place the drop inside without touching the dropper tip to the eye
• Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for about a minute after applying to reduce absorption into the body
• If using other eye drops too, wait at least 10 minutes between different drops
• Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to avoid contamination

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not use double the amount to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store as directed on the label, usually at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat
• Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Discard the bottle after the period mentioned on the label once opened, even if some liquid remains

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging in the eye after applying
• Blurred vision for a short time
• Bitter or unusual taste in the mouth
• Watery eyes

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Redness or itching of the eye
• Dry eyes
• Headache
• Nausea

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe eye pain, swelling, or discharge
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, or difficulty breathing
• Sudden vision changes
• Signs of skin reaction such as blistering or peeling

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors taken by mouth
• Other glaucoma eye drops, since effects may add up
• Any new eye medicine started without informing your doctor
