WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Swelling of legs, ankles, and abdomen due to heart failure
• Fluid build-up caused by liver disease (cirrhosis)
• Fluid retention due to kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome
• High blood pressure, usually along with other medicines
• Reducing fluid overload in certain hospital situations

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts on the kidneys to increase the amount of salt and water removed in urine
• This reduces the total fluid volume in the body, easing swelling and lowering blood pressure
• The effect usually begins within an hour and lasts several hours

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller
• It is not used to treat infections
• It is not a weight-loss medicine, though it may cause temporary water-weight loss
• It is not meant for long-term use without medical supervision

How to Use Frusemide 40mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Take it in the morning to avoid needing to urinate frequently at night
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better
• Your doctor may monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and blood salt levels periodically

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is late in the day, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time

• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Ringing in the ears or hearing loss
• Significant decrease in urine output
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
