WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Serious infections of the blood (septicemia)
• Infections of the urinary tract
• Infections of the abdomen
• Infections of the skin and soft tissue
• Bone and joint infections
• Infections of the eye or ear (topical forms)
• Used sometimes along with other antibiotics for severe infections

HOW IT WORKS

• Gentamicin kills bacteria by stopping them from making proteins needed for their survival
• It works mainly against gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive bacteria
• It does not work against viruses or fungi

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Common cold, flu, or viral fever
• Uncomplicated minor infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics
• Fungal infections
• As a first-choice antibiotic for mild infections due to risk of side effects

How to Use Gentamicin (10mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Gentamicin injection is given by a doctor or nurse, usually into a vein or muscle, exactly as prescribed
• Topical forms (cream, eye drops, ear drops) should be applied as directed by your doctor
• Do not use more or less than prescribed, and do not stop treatment early even if you feel better
• Complete the full course to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant
• Your doctor may monitor your blood levels, kidney function, and hearing during treatment

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Since this is usually given in a hospital or clinical setting, missed doses are managed by your healthcare provider
• For topical forms used at home, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember, but skip it if it is almost time for the next dose
• Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store as directed on the label, usually below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

• Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face/lips, difficulty breathing, severe rash)
• Signs of new infection such as persistent sore throat or fever
