WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Psoriasis (including plaque psoriasis)
  • Severe eczema and dermatitis that has not responded to milder steroids
  • Other inflammatory skin conditions as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

  • It belongs to the corticosteroid group of medicines
  • It reduces inflammation by blocking chemical messengers that cause redness, swelling and itching
  • It also narrows blood vessels in the skin (vasoconstriction), reducing visible redness

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • Not for acne, rosacea or fungal skin infections
  • Not for viral skin infections such as chickenpox, herpes or shingles
  • Not for routine daily moisturising or minor skin dryness
  • Not for use on the face, groin or underarms unless specifically advised, due to high potency

How to Use Halobetasol 0.05% W/W

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Apply a thin layer to the affected skin only, as prescribed by your doctor
  • Wash and dry the area gently before application
  • Rub in gently and wash your hands afterward, unless hands are being treated
  • Do not use more often or for longer than your doctor has advised
  • Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings unless told to do so
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Apply as soon as you remember
  • If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one
  • Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
  • Keep the tube tightly closed
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • Burning or stinging at the application site
  • Itching or irritation
  • Dryness of the skin

  • Visible small blood vessels on the skin (telangiectasia)
  • Change in skin colour at the applied area

  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat
  • Signs of skin infection such as pus, increased redness or pain
  • Signs of excess steroid absorption such as unusual weight gain, weakness or high blood sugar with prolonged use
  • Severe skin thinning, ulceration or easy bruising
