HOW IT WORKS

• It is an osmotic laxative that draws water into the bowel, softening stool and increasing bowel movements
• In the colon, it is broken down by bacteria into acids that trap ammonia, reducing its absorption into the blood
• This lowering of ammonia helps improve mental clarity in people with liver disease

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a treatment for infectious diarrhoea
• It is not meant for rapid or emergency bowel clearance before surgery unless specifically advised
• It does not treat the underlying liver disease itself, only one of its complications
• It is not a weight-loss or detox product

How to Use Lactitol (66.67% W/V)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily, often with a meal
• Mix the dose with water, juice, or milk as instructed on the label
• Drink plenty of fluids through the day while taking this medicine
• Effect for constipation may take a day or two to begin; for hepatic encephalopathy, follow your doctor's dosing schedule closely as the dose may be adjusted based on your response
• Do not increase the dose on your own even if you feel it is not working fast enough

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
