Lamivudine + Nevirapine + Stavudine — Uses and Benefits

This medicine is used for the treatment of HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection in adults and children as advised by the doctor.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Long-term management of HIV-1 infection
  • Reducing viral load in the blood
  • Improving immune function (CD4 cell count) over time
  • Used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART)

HOW IT WORKS

  • Lamivudine and Stavudine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that block an enzyme HIV needs to multiply
  • Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that blocks the same enzyme in a different way
  • Together they reduce HIV replication and slow disease progression
  • They do not remove the virus completely from the body

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It is not a cure for HIV/AIDS
  • It does not prevent transmission of HIV to others
  • It is not used for other viral infections such as hepatitis unless specifically advised
  • It is not a substitute for safe practices to prevent HIV spread
