WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term management of HIV-1 infection
• Reducing viral load in the blood
• Improving immune function (CD4 cell count) over time
• Used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART)

HOW IT WORKS

• Lamivudine and Stavudine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that block an enzyme HIV needs to multiply
• Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that blocks the same enzyme in a different way
• Together they reduce HIV replication and slow disease progression
• They do not remove the virus completely from the body

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a cure for HIV/AIDS
• It does not prevent transmission of HIV to others
• It is not used for other viral infections such as hepatitis unless specifically advised

How to Use Lamivudine + Nevirapine + Stavudine

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually at fixed times each day
• Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food unless advised otherwise
• Do not skip doses, as missing doses can lead to drug resistance
• Continue taking the medicine for as long as your doctor recommends, even if you feel well
• Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• Try to set reminders to avoid missing doses, as consistency is very important with HIV treatment

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Keep in the original container until it is time to take it

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Headache
• Diarrhoea
• Tiredness or weakness
• Skin rash
• Loss of appetite

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Numbness or tingling in hands and feet
• Muscle pain
• Sleep disturbances
• Fat redistribution changes over long-term use
• Mild liver enzyme changes

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling (signs of severe allergic reaction)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting with rapid breathing (signs of lactic acidosis)
• Signs of pancreatitis such as severe abdominal pain
• Unusual weakness, muscle pain with breathing difficulty
• Signs of severe allergic reaction like swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to lamivudine, nevirapine, stavudine, or any other ingredient in the tablet
• Have severe liver disease
• Are already taking other medicines containing the same ingredients
• Have been advised against it due to prior serious reaction to nevirapine

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a history of pancreatitis
• Have peripheral neuropathy or nerve problems
