Levetiracetam 1000mg — Uses and Benefits
Levetiracetam is mainly used to treat epilepsy in adults and children.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treating partial-onset seizures, alone or along with other anti-epileptic medicines
- Treating myoclonic seizures in certain types of epilepsy
- Treating generalised tonic-clonic seizures as add-on therapy
HOW IT WORKS
- It binds to a specific protein in the brain (SV2A) that helps regulate nerve signalling
- This reduces abnormal, excessive electrical activity that causes seizures
- It helps prevent seizures from starting and spreading, though it does not cure epilepsy
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat headaches or muscle pain
- It is not used for anxiety or sleep disorders
- It is not a rescue medicine to stop a seizure that is already happening
- It should not be used without medical supervision to self-treat any nervous system symptom
How to Use Levetiracetam 1000mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
- Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food
- Take it at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady levels in the body
- Do not stop taking it suddenly, even if you feel well, as this can trigger seizures
- Any change in dose or stopping should be done gradually under medical supervision
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- If you miss several doses, contact your doctor before restarting
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
