Levetiracetam is mainly used to treat epilepsy by controlling different types of seizures.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults and children
• Treatment of myoclonic seizures in patients with certain types of epilepsy
• Treatment of primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures
• Can be used alone or as add-on therapy with other anti-epileptic medicines

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts on a specific protein in the brain (SV2A) that helps regulate the release of nerve signal chemicals
• This helps reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain that causes seizures
• It helps stabilise nerve cell activity, reducing the frequency of seizures

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for headaches or migraines
• Not a painkiller and does not treat muscle pain or cramps unrelated to seizures
• Not used for anxiety or sleep disorders
• Not a cure for epilepsy; it only controls seizures while being taken

How to Use Levetiracetam 100mg/ml

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it the same way each time
• Use the measuring device provided with the oral solution for accurate dosing; do not use a household spoon
• Swallow or take the solution as directed; do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor
• Do not change the dose on your own even if you feel better

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, speak to your doctor about a reminder plan

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

• Signs of liver problems such as yellowing of skin or eyes
• Severe muscle weakness or uncoordinated movements
