Mesalazine is used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases, mainly ulcerative colitis, and helps in both treating flare-ups and preventing them from coming back.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating active mild to moderate ulcerative colitis
• Maintaining remission (keeping the disease under control) in ulcerative colitis
• Reducing inflammation in the colon and rectum

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts locally on the inner lining of the intestine
• It reduces the release of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation
• It helps heal the inflamed gut lining and reduces symptoms like diarrhoea and blood in stool

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and should not be used for general body pain
• It is not used for infections caused by bacteria or viruses
• It is not a treatment for Crohn's disease flare in all cases unless specifically advised by your doctor
• It does not cure ulcerative colitis permanently; it controls the disease

How to Use Mesalazine 2gm

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the same times each day
• Tablets are usually swallowed whole with water, without crushing or chewing, unless your doctor says otherwise
• Take with or after food if it upsets your stomach
• If using enema or suppository forms, follow the specific instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist
• Continue the full course even if you feel better; stopping early can cause the disease to flare up again

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, tell your doctor, as regular use is important for controlling the disease

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

• Yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Unusual bleeding, bruising, or signs of low blood count like extreme tiredness or repeated infections
• Severe stomach pain, worsening diarrhoea or blood in stool (possible allergic bowel reaction)
• Chest pain, breathlessness (possible heart or lung inflammation)
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Reduced urine output or swelling (possible kidney problem)

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
