Midodrine is mainly used to treat orthostatic (postural) hypotension, a condition where blood pressure drops suddenly when a person stands up, causing dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision or fainting.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating symptomatic low blood pressure on standing (orthostatic hypotension)
• Managing dizziness or fainting spells caused by sudden drops in blood pressure
• Used in some cases of low blood pressure linked to nervous system disorders

HOW IT WORKS

• It activates receptors in blood vessel walls, causing them to narrow (constrict)
• This raises blood pressure and improves blood flow when a person is upright
• Its effect is temporary and works best when taken before periods of activity

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for high blood pressure
• It is not a treatment for fainting caused by heart rhythm problems
• It is not meant for long-term use without regular doctor check-ups
• It is not a painkiller or general tonic for weakness

How to Use Midodrine (10mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually during daytime hours
• Take before activities that require standing or sitting upright
• Avoid taking it close to bedtime, as lying down soon after can raise blood pressure too much
• Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food
• Do not increase or stop the dose on your own

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember, but only if you will remain upright afterwards
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Never take it right before lying down or sleeping

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture
• Keep away from direct sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Tingling or goosebumps on the skin
• Scalp itching
• Increased urge to urinate

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Very high blood pressure while lying down (severe headache, blurred vision, chest pain)
• Slow or irregular heartbeat
• Severe skin rash or allergic reaction
• Difficulty breathing or swelling of face and throat
• Severe dizziness or fainting despite treatment

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
