Olmesartan 20mg + Amlodipine 5mg + Chlorthalidone 6.25mg — Uses and Benefits
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults, especially when treatment with one or two blood pressure medicines alone has not worked well.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Long-term control of high blood pressure
- Reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems linked to uncontrolled blood pressure
- Used when a single blood pressure medicine is not enough
HOW IT WORKS
- Olmesartan blocks a hormone (angiotensin II) that tightens blood vessels, helping them relax
- Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel walls
- Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, lowering blood volume
- Together they lower blood pressure more effectively than any one component alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not a treatment for sudden, severe high blood pressure emergencies
- Not used for chest pain (angina) as a first choice
- Not a substitute for lifestyle changes like diet, exercise and weight control
- Not to be used during pregnancy
