Pantoprazole 20mg — Uses and Benefits
Pantoprazole 20mg is used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and heartburn
- Acid reflux with damage to the food pipe (erosive esophagitis)
- Stomach and duodenal ulcers
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions causing excess acid production
- Prevention of ulcers caused by long-term use of pain relievers (NSAIDs)
HOW IT WORKS
- Blocks the acid pump in the stomach lining cells
- Reduces the total amount of acid produced
- Allows healing of irritated or damaged tissue in the food pipe and stomach
- Relieves symptoms like burning sensation, chest discomfort, and sour taste
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat infections such as H. pylori on its own (used along with antibiotics in such cases)
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat general body pain
- It does not cure occasional mild indigestion caused by overeating
- It is not meant for immediate relief of sudden severe stomach pain
How to Use Pantoprazole 20mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Usually taken once daily, before a meal, preferably in the morning
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it
- Do not stop the medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better
- Continue for the full duration advised, even if symptoms improve early
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep in the original packaging until ready to use
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

- Signs of low magnesium such as muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat, or seizures
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Sudden bone pain or fracture with long-term use
