Permethrin 5% w/w cream is mainly used to treat scabies, a skin condition caused by tiny mites that burrow into the skin and cause intense itching and rash.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of scabies infestation
• Sometimes used for other mite or lice infestations as advised by a doctor
• Applied to the entire body from neck to toe as directed

HOW IT WORKS

• Permethrin acts on the nerve cell membranes of mites and lice, disrupting their nervous system
• This paralyses and kills the parasites and their eggs
• It stays on the skin long enough to kill mites that hatch after application

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for fungal skin infections
• Not used for bacterial skin infections
• Not a treatment for general itching or eczema not caused by mites or lice
• Not meant for oral use or use in the eyes

How to Use Permethrin (5% W/W)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• For external use only, apply to clean, dry skin as directed by your doctor
• Usually applied over the entire body from the neck downward, including between fingers, toes, and skin folds
• Left on the skin for the duration advised by the doctor, then washed off thoroughly
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes
• Wash hands immediately after application unless hands are also being treated
• Do not apply to broken, infected or irritated skin unless told to do so by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Since this is usually a one-time or short-course treatment, apply as soon as you remember and follow your doctor's instructions
• Do not apply extra amounts to make up for a missed application
• Contact your doctor if you are unsure about re-treatment timing

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the container tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or stinging sensation on application
• Itching that may temporarily worsen after applying
• Redness of the skin
• Dryness or mild irritation at the site of application

• Tingling or numbness of skin
• Mild rash
• Swelling of treated skin areas

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe skin blistering or peeling
• Signs of allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, swelling of face or lips
• Severe itching or rash spreading beyond the treated area
• Signs of skin infection like pus, increasing pain or fever
