This medicine is mainly used to manage acute diarrhoea.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of acute diarrhoea in infants, children and adults
• Used along with oral rehydration solution (ORS) to prevent dehydration
• Helps reduce the frequency and volume of watery stools

HOW IT WORKS

• It works by reducing the excessive secretion of water and electrolytes into the gut
• It does not slow down gut movement, so it does not cause constipation like some other anti-diarrhoeal medicines
• It helps the stool become more solid faster while allowing the body to fight the underlying cause

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for chronic or long-standing diarrhoea
• Not a treatment for the underlying infection causing diarrhoea (it does not kill bacteria or viruses)
• Not used for constipation or other digestive disorders
• Not a substitute for ORS or fluid replacement

How to Use Resicadotril 10mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Usually taken by mouth, before meals, mixed with water if in sachet form
• Continue taking ORS along with this medicine to prevent dehydration
• Do not use for longer than advised by your doctor, even if diarrhoea continues
• Complete the course as directed, and stop once diarrhoea resolves as per doctor's advice

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use if the sachet or packaging is damaged or expired
• Dispose of unused or expired medicine safely as per local guidelines

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to racecadotril or any of its ingredients
• Have a known hereditary fructose intolerance (if the formulation contains sucrose)
• Have severe kidney or liver disease without medical supervision
