This combination is prescribed to treat infections of the gastrointestinal tract caused by both bacteria and protozoa (parasites), especially in cases of amoebiasis with associated bacterial infection.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Amoebic dysentery and intestinal amoebiasis
  • Mixed bacterial and protozoal diarrhoea
  • Infections of the gut associated with abdominal pain and loose motions
  • Post-surgical gut infections in some cases, as directed by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

  • Satranidazole kills protozoal parasites like Entamoeba histolytica by damaging their DNA
  • Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops bacteria from multiplying by blocking enzymes needed for their DNA replication
  • Together they cover both protozoal and bacterial causes of gut infection

  • Viral diarrhoea or stomach upset caused by viruses
  • Simple food poisoning without infection

How to Use Satranidazole 75mg + Ofloxacin 50mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
  • Take with or after food to reduce stomach upset
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
  • Complete the full course even if you feel better, to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant
  • Drink plenty of fluids during the course, especially if you have diarrhoea
  • Avoid alcohol while on this medicine

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
  • If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

  • Are allergic to satranidazole, ofloxacin, or other nitroimidazole/fluoroquinolone drugs

  • Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone antibiotics
  • Are a child or adolescent whose bones are still growing, unless advised by a specialist
