Tacrolimus 0.03% ointment is mainly used to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema), especially when other treatments have not worked well or cannot be used safely.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating atopic dermatitis (eczema) on the skin
• Managing flare-ups of eczema
• Long-term, intermittent maintenance therapy to prevent flare-ups in some cases
• Sometimes used off-label for other inflammatory skin conditions, only under doctor's advice

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks a substance called calcineurin in skin immune cells
• This reduces the release of inflammatory chemicals in the skin
• This helps reduce redness, itching, and swelling caused by eczema
• It works locally on the skin without the strong side effects of steroid creams when used correctly

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a cure for eczema, only a way to control symptoms
• It is not meant for acne, fungal infections, or general dryness of skin
• It should not be used on infected skin unless the infection is being treated
• It is not recommended for children below 2 years of age unless specifically advised by a doctor

How to Use Tacrolimus 0.03%

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected skin area as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash and dry your hands before and after application unless hands are the treated area
• Do not cover the treated area with tight bandages unless advised
• Avoid applying on broken, infected, or weeping skin unless your doctor says it is fine
• Avoid excessive sun exposure or use sunscreen while using this medicine
• Use only on the skin; do not apply near eyes, mouth, or on mucous membranes

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one
• Do not apply extra ointment to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep the tube tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging sensation at the site of application
• Itching
• Redness of skin
• Mild skin warmth or tingling

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin flushing after alcohol consumption
• Headache
• Acne-like bumps
• Increased sensitivity to sunlight

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of skin infection such as pus, swelling, or fever
• Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, or difficulty breathing
• Unusual lumps or changes in skin that do not heal
• Signs of lymph node swelling

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
