Tacrolimus 0.1% ointment is used to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) that has not responded well to other treatments.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children as advised by doctor
• Long-term management to control flare-ups and maintain remission
• Skin areas where steroid creams are not suitable, such as face and neck

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks a substance called calcineurin in skin immune cells
• Reduces release of chemicals that cause itching, redness, and swelling
• Calms the overactive immune response responsible for eczema flares

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for acne, fungal infections, or bacterial skin infections
• Not used for psoriasis unless specifically advised by a doctor
• Not a first-line treatment for mild eczema
• Not meant for use on broken or infected skin without medical advice

How to Use Tacrolimus 0.1%

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected skin as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash and dry hands before and after application unless hands are being treated
• Avoid covering the treated area with tight bandages unless advised
• Do not apply on open wounds, infected skin, or mucous membranes
• Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen on treated areas as advised
• Do not use more often or in larger amounts than prescribed

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one
• Do not apply extra ointment to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep the tube tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging sensation at the application site
• Itching
• Redness or warmth of the skin

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin tingling
• Increased sensitivity to sunlight
• Acne-like breakouts
• Mild headache

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of skin infection such as pus, swelling, or worsening redness
• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Unusual lumps or skin changes that do not heal
• Signs of eye irritation if the ointment accidentally contacts eyes

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
