This combination medicine is mainly used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) in men.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating moderate to severe symptoms of BPH such as difficulty urinating, weak urine stream, and frequent urination
• Reducing the risk of acute urinary retention (sudden inability to pass urine)
• Reducing the need for prostate-related surgery over time

HOW IT WORKS

• Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate
• Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces the hormone responsible for prostate enlargement, shrinking the prostate gradually
• Together, they give faster symptom relief along with long-term reduction in prostate size

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used to treat prostate cancer
• Not used for urinary tract infections
• Not meant for use in women or children
• Not a treatment for erectile dysfunction, although it may affect sexual function

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
