Valdecoxib is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by joint and muscle conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Osteoarthritis pain and stiffness
• Rheumatoid arthritis pain and swelling
• Painful menstrual cramps

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks an enzyme called COX-2 that is involved in producing chemicals that cause pain, swelling and inflammation
• By selectively targeting COX-2, it aims to relieve pain while having less effect on the stomach lining compared to older NSAIDs
• It does not treat the underlying disease, only the pain and inflammation symptoms

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a cure for arthritis or any chronic joint disease
• It is not meant for routine use in mild headaches or fever
• It should not be used for long-term self-medication without doctor supervision
• It is not suitable for use just before or after heart surgery

How to Use Valdecoxib (40mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Do not increase the dose or take it more often than prescribed
• Use the lowest dose for the shortest time necessary to control symptoms

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Severe skin reactions such as blistering, peeling skin, or a widespread rash (this medicine has been linked to serious skin reactions)
• Signs of stomach bleeding such as black stools or vomiting blood
• Sudden swelling of face, lips, throat or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
