• Treatment of schizophrenia
• Treatment of manic or mixed episodes linked to bipolar disorder
• Long-term management to prevent relapse of symptoms, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks and balances dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain
• This helps reduce hallucinations, delusions, agitation, and mood swings
• It helps restore more normal thinking and behaviour patterns over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a cure for mental illness, only helps control symptoms
• It is not used for simple anxiety or everyday stress
• It is not recommended for behavioural problems in elderly people with dementia
• It should not be used without a doctor's prescription and supervision

How to Use Ziprasidone

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day with food
• Taking it with food helps the body absorb the medicine properly
• Swallow the capsule/tablet whole with water, do not crush or chew unless advised
• Do not stop taking it suddenly even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor
• It may take a few weeks to notice full benefit

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, talk to your doctor about a reminder system

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not store in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink
• Discard expired medicine safely, do not use after the expiry date

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Fast, irregular heartbeat or fainting
• High fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, sweating (signs of a rare but serious reaction)
• Uncontrolled muscle movements of face, tongue or limbs
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face or difficulty breathing
• Suicidal thoughts or unusual behaviour changes
• Seizures

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ziprasidone or any of its ingredients
• Have a known heart rhythm problem (long QT syndrome) or recent heart attack
• Have uncontrolled heart failure
• Are taking other medicines that also affect heart rhythm, unless advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any heart disease or family history of heart rhythm problems
• Have low potassium or magnesium levels
• Have diabetes or a family history of diabetes
• Have a history of seizures
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are elderly with dementia-related psychosis
