Uses and Benefits of CEBRAN EYE/EAR DROP (CIPROFLOXACIN)

Ciprofloxacin is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in various parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Urinary tract infections including cystitis and pyelonephritis
• Respiratory tract infections such as certain types of pneumonia and bronchitis
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Infectious diarrhoea and typhoid fever
• Eye and ear infections (as drops)
• Certain sexually transmitted infections

HOW IT WORKS

• It stops bacteria from copying their genetic material (DNA)
• This prevents the bacteria from multiplying and eventually kills them
• It works only against bacteria, not viruses

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Common cold, flu, or viral sore throat
• Viral fever
• Infections not caused by bacteria sensitive to it
• As a general painkiller or fever reducer

Your doctor will decide if ciprofloxacin is the right antibiotic based on the type of infection and local resistance patterns. Do not use it for minor ailments or without a prescription, as unnecessary use can lead to antibiotic resistance.

• Sudden tendon pain, swelling, or rupture (especially in the ankle or Achilles tendon)
• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face/throat, breathing difficulty, or severe rash
• Signs of liver problems such as yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine
• Severe, watery, or bloody diarrhoea that does not stop
• Numbness, tingling, or weakness (signs of nerve problems)
• Seizures, confusion, hallucinations, or severe mood changes
• Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

How to Use CEBRAN EYE/EAR DROP (CIPROFLOXACIN)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the same times each day
• Swallow tablets with a full glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with dairy products or calcium-fortified juices alone
• Do not take antacids, iron, zinc, or calcium supplements within 2 hours of your dose as they reduce absorption
• Drink plenty of fluids while on this medicine
• Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• If using eye/ear drops, follow specific storage instructions on the label, and discard as directed after opening.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics
• Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone use
• Are a child or growing adolescent, unless specifically advised by a doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have epilepsy or a history of seizures
• Have myasthenia gravis or other muscle/nerve conditions
• Have a history of heart rhythm problems
• Are elderly, as risk of tendon injury is higher
• Have diabetes, as blood sugar changes can occur

• Antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements
• Theophylline and certain other asthma medicines
• Warfarin and other blood thinners
• NSAIDs (pain relievers) which may increase seizure risk
• Certain heart rhythm medicines
• Oral diabetes medicines and insulin
• Other drugs affecting the QT interval of the heart
