Lamotrigine 100mg is mainly prescribed to treat epilepsy and to help prevent mood swings in bipolar disorder.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling partial and generalised seizures in epilepsy
• Used alone or with other anti-epileptic medicines
• Long-term prevention of depressive episodes in bipolar disorder

HOW IT WORKS

• It stabilises overactive nerve cells in the brain by blocking certain sodium channels
• This reduces the abnormal electrical signals that cause seizures
• It also helps balance mood-regulating brain chemicals in bipolar disorder

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller and not used for ordinary headaches
• Not used for acute manic episodes as a first choice
• Not a substitute for other doctor-advised bipolar treatments
• Not to be used for sudden anxiety or short-term stress

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Unusual bruising or bleeding
• Thoughts of self-harm or worsening depression

How to Use LAMITOR OD 100 TABLET (Lamotrigine 100mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food
• Do not chew or crush unless your doctor says it is fine
• Do not stop suddenly, as this can trigger seizures — dose must be reduced gradually
• Doses are usually started low and increased slowly, so follow your doctor's schedule carefully

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses for several days in a row, contact your doctor before restarting

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to lamotrigine or any ingredient in the tablet

• Oxcarbazepine and other mood-stabilising medicines
