Uses and Benefits of ABVIDA-M 50/850MG TABLET (VILDAGLIPTIN 50MG + METFORMIN 850MG)
This combination medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when blood sugar is not controlled well enough by diet, exercise, or a single medicine alone.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
- Used along with diet and exercise for better blood sugar control
- Sometimes used together with other diabetes medicines as advised by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Vildagliptin increases hormones that help the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high
- Vildagliptin also reduces the amount of sugar released by the liver
- Metformin decreases sugar production in the liver and improves how the body uses insulin
- Together they help lower blood sugar more effectively than either alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious emergency condition
- Not a treatment for weight loss, though some people may lose weight incidentally
- Not a substitute for insulin when insulin is specifically required
