Uses and Benefits of AMPILOX C 500MG INJECTION (AMPICILLIN 250MG+CLOXACILLIN 250MG)
This medicine is a combination antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to both ampicillin and cloxacillin.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscesses and wound infections
- Respiratory tract infections including throat, sinus and chest infections
- Ear infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Bone and joint infections in some cases
- Infections after surgery, as advised by the doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Ampicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that stops bacteria from building their cell walls, causing them to die
- Cloxacillin is also a penicillin-type antibiotic that specifically resists an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which some bacteria use to destroy ampicillin
- Together they cover a broader range of bacteria than either medicine alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- Fever without a confirmed or suspected bacterial cause
- As a general painkiller or fever reducer

How to Use AMPILOX C 500MG INJECTION (AMPICILLIN 250MG+CLOXACILLIN 250MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and frequency advised
- Preferably take on an empty stomach, about half an hour before or two hours after food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
- Swallow tablets/capsules with a full glass of water
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, do not stop early
- Take doses at evenly spaced times each day to maintain a steady level in the body
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- If you miss several doses, inform your doctor
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep in a cool, dry place, away from children's reach
- If a liquid suspension has been prepared, check the label for how long it can be used after mixing, and keep it refrigerated if advised
- Do not use the medicine after its expiry date

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to penicillin, ampicillin, cloxacillin or any related antibiotic
- Have had a severe allergic reaction to any beta-lactam antibiotic in the past
- Have been advised against it by your doctor for any other reason
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of allergies, asthma or eczema
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have a history of glandular fever or blood disorders
- Are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
- Methotrexate, as levels may increase
- Probenecid, which can increase antibiotic levels in blood
- Other antibiotics, as combined use should only be under medical advice
- Blood thinners such as warfarin, as effect may be altered
