Doxifluridine is used mainly in the treatment of certain cancers, particularly of the digestive tract and breast, as part of a planned chemotherapy regimen.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of gastric (stomach) cancer
• Treatment of colorectal cancer
• Treatment of breast cancer
• Used alone or combined with other anti-cancer medicines as decided by the treating doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It is converted in the body to an active anti-cancer compound
• This compound blocks an enzyme needed for making DNA in cells
• Cancer cells, which divide rapidly, are affected more than normal cells
• This slows down or stops the growth and spread of the tumour

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat cancer-related pain directly

HOW TO TAKE IT
