This medicine is mainly prescribed for the long-term control of high blood pressure.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treating high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Used when a single blood pressure medicine is not enough to control blood pressure
- Sometimes used to reduce strain on the heart in certain heart conditions, as advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Ramipril belongs to a group called ACE inhibitors; it relaxes and widens blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (water pill) that helps kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body, reducing blood volume
- Together they lower blood pressure through two different mechanisms, giving better control
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for sudden severe (emergency) high blood pressure needing immediate hospital treatment
- Not a painkiller or fever medicine
- Not meant for occasional or as-needed use; it works best when taken regularly
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy
