Cariprazine is prescribed for mental health conditions that affect thinking, mood and behaviour.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of schizophrenia in adults
- Treatment of manic or mixed episodes linked to bipolar I disorder
- Treatment of depressive episodes linked to bipolar disorder
- Sometimes used alongside other medicines for certain mood disorders, as decided by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Acts on dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain
- Helps restore a healthier balance of these chemical messengers
- This can reduce symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, extreme mood swings and disorganised thinking
- Full benefit usually builds up gradually over several weeks of regular use
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not a treatment for simple anxiety or everyday stress
- Not a sleeping pill
- Not used for depression that is not linked to bipolar disorder unless specifically advised
- Not a cure — it helps manage symptoms and needs to be continued as directed

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- High fever, muscle rigidity, confusion, sweating (signs of a rare but serious reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome)
- Uncontrollable, repetitive muscle movements of the face or body
- Fainting, irregular heartbeat or severe dizziness
- Signs of high blood sugar such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, extreme tiredness
- New or worsening mood changes, agitation, or thoughts of self-harm
- Severe allergic reaction — swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, skin rash

How to Use CARISPEC 6MG CAPSULE (Cariprazine (6mg))
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
- Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor says otherwise
- Swallow the tablet/capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Try to take it at the same time each day to build a routine
- Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better
- It may take several weeks to feel the full benefit — continue taking it regularly
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- If you miss several doses, inform your doctor before restarting
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, sunlight and moisture
- Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
- Keep out of reach and sight of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to cariprazine or any of its ingredients
- Are a child or adolescent unless specifically prescribed by a specialist
- Have been advised against it due to a known heart rhythm problem, without medical clearance
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have heart disease, low blood pressure, or history of stroke
- Have diabetes or a family history of diabetes
- Have a history of seizures
- Have liver or kidney problems
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have a history of substance use or have had neuroleptic malignant syndrome before
- Are elderly with dementia-related psychosis (increased risk of serious events)
