Ciprofloxacin 500mg is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in various parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Urinary tract infections
• Respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Gastrointestinal infections including infectious diarrhoea
• Certain sexually transmitted infections
• Prevention or treatment of infections in specific situations as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Ciprofloxacin blocks bacterial enzymes needed for DNA replication
• This stops bacteria from multiplying and eventually kills them
• It is effective against a broad range of gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections such as common cold or flu
• Fungal infections
• As a general painkiller or fever reducer
• Without confirming that the infection is bacterial and sensitive to this medicine

Always complete the full course as prescribed, even if you feel better early, to prevent antibiotic resistance.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Diarrhoea

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin rash or itching
• Vomiting

• Taste changes
• Vaginal itching or discharge

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Sudden tendon pain or swelling, especially in the ankle or heel
• Severe diarrhoea with blood or mucus
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Unusual mood changes, confusion, hallucinations, or seizures
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine
• Numbness, tingling, or weakness in limbs
• Severe skin reactions with blistering or peeling

How to Use CHEERIO PLUS Paste (Ciprofloxacin 500mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually at evenly spaced times
• Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with dairy products or calcium-fortified juices alone
• Drink plenty of fluids during treatment
• Do not skip doses or stop early even if you feel better
• Complete the full course as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics
• Are taking tizanidine
• Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone use

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have epilepsy or a history of seizures
• Have myasthenia gravis
• Have a personal or family history of heart rhythm problems

• Antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements
