This medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults who need more than one medicine to control blood sugar levels.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise for better sugar control

HOW IT WORKS

• Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin

• Signs of ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fast breathing even with normal sugar levels
• Signs of dehydration or kidney problems such as reduced urination or swelling
• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, or difficulty breathing
• Sudden severe pain in genital or groin area (rare infection called Fournier's gangrene)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily with the first main meal
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
• Do not skip meals after taking this medicine, as it can cause low blood sugar
• Drink enough water during the day, especially in hot weather
• Continue diet and exercise advice given by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have a severe infection, dehydration, or are about to undergo major surgery or contrast imaging
