Uses and Benefits of DAPAVEL P Tablets (Dapagliflozin 10mg + Pioglitazone 15mg)

This medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, usually when diet, exercise, and other medicines have not given adequate blood sugar control.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise for better sugar control
• Sometimes used along with other diabetes medicines like metformin

HOW IT WORKS

• Dapagliflozin blocks a kidney protein (SGLT2) that reabsorbs sugar, causing extra sugar to pass out in urine
• Pioglitazone makes muscle and fat cells more sensitive to insulin, helping the body use insulin better
• Together they lower blood sugar through two different actions, giving better overall control

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis
• Not a treatment for weight loss, though some weight loss may occur
• Not a substitute for insulin in people who need insulin therapy
• Not used for children

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Back pain
• Nausea
• Swelling in feet or ankles

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of dehydration or very low blood pressure
• Severe urinary or genital infection with fever
• Sudden swelling, shortness of breath, or rapid weight gain (possible heart failure)
• Bone fractures after minor falls
• Blood or pus in urine, or pain during urination
• Unusual tiredness, dark urine, or yellowing of skin (liver problems)
• Signs of a rare but serious genital infection (Fournier's gangrene): severe pain, swelling, redness in genital area with fever

How to Use DAPAVEL P Tablets (Dapagliflozin 10mg + Pioglitazone 15mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well; diabetes medicines work best with consistent use
• Keep following your prescribed diet and exercise plan alongside this medicine

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep the tablets in their original blister pack or container until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use the medicine after its expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to dapagliflozin, pioglitazone, or any ingredient in the tablet
• Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis
• Have active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer
• Have heart failure or a history of heart failure
• Have severe liver disease

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have a history of urinary tract infections
• Have low blood pressure or are on medicines that lower blood pressure
• Are dehydrated or have had recent vomiting/diarrhoea
• Have a history of bone fractures or low bone density
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have any heart or liver condition

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Insulin or other diabetes medicines that lower blood sugar (risk of low sugar)
• Diuretics (water pills), as they may worsen dehydration
• Blood pressure medicines
• Certain medicines affecting liver enzymes, such as gemfibrozil or rifampicin
• Other medicines that affect the heart or fluid balance
