Deferasirox 500mg is used to treat chronic iron overload caused by repeated blood transfusions or certain blood disorders.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Chronic iron overload due to repeated blood transfusions
• Iron overload in conditions like thalassemia and other chronic anemias requiring transfusions
• Reducing long-term organ damage caused by excess iron in the body

HOW IT WORKS

• Binds to excess iron in the blood
• Forms a complex that is removed from the body mainly through stools
• Helps lower iron levels in the liver, heart, and other organs over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for acute iron poisoning or accidental iron overdose
• Not a treatment for anemia itself
• Not used to treat infections or other unrelated blood disorders

• Signs of liver damage, such as yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine
• Severe stomach pain, black stools, or vomiting blood (signs of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcer)
• Severe skin reactions, such as blistering, peeling skin, or widespread rash
• Hearing or vision changes
• Signs of severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of face/throat or difficulty breathing

How to Use DEFRIJET 500MG TABLET (DEFERASIROX 500MG.)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Take on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Take at the same time each day to maintain steady levels in the body
• Swallow or disperse the tablet as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist; do not chew whole tablets meant to be dispersed
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well
• Your doctor may monitor your blood, liver, and kidney function regularly while you are on this medicine

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight
• Keep in the original pack, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to deferasirox or any of its ingredients
• Have severe kidney disease or advanced liver disease
• Have very low platelet counts or advanced bone marrow failure without medical supervision
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor

• Have any kidney or liver problems
• Have a history of stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding
