Domperidone 5mg is mainly used to treat nausea, vomiting and stomach discomfort linked to slow digestion.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Relief from nausea and vomiting
• Relief from bloating, fullness and discomfort after meals
• Helping food move faster through the stomach in conditions of delayed stomach emptying

HOW IT WORKS

• It increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, helping food pass through faster
• It blocks certain receptors in the brain that trigger the feeling of nausea and vomiting
• It does not usually cross into the brain much, which keeps certain side effects low

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat stomach pain caused by ulcers or infection
• It is not used to treat motion sickness in most cases
• It is not a treatment for the underlying cause of vomiting, such as infection or food poisoning; it only manages the symptom
• It should not be used long-term without medical supervision

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually before meals
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Do not take more than the prescribed dose or for longer than advised
• Do not use it for prolonged periods without your doctor reviewing your treatment

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose
• If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take double the dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have a known heart rhythm problem or take medicines that affect heart rhythm
• Have moderate to severe liver disease
• Have a tumour that increases prolactin hormone (prolactinoma)
• Are allergic to domperidone or any of its ingredients

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any heart condition or family history of heart rhythm problems
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are already taking other medicines, including over-the-counter drugs or supplements
