Uses and Benefits of DORTAS-T EYE DROP (Dorzolamide 2%w/v + Timolol 0.5%w/v)

This combination eye drop is used to treat conditions where pressure inside the eye is higher than normal, most commonly glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Lowering raised pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure)
• Managing open-angle glaucoma
• Managing ocular hypertension when a single medicine is not enough
• Used when your doctor feels one eye drop alone does not control pressure well

HOW IT WORKS

• Dorzolamide reduces the production of fluid (aqueous humour) inside the eye by blocking an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase
• Timolol, a beta-blocker, also reduces fluid production in the eye
• Together they lower eye pressure more than either medicine alone
• Lower eye pressure helps protect the optic nerve from damage

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for red eye due to infection or allergy
• Not used for eye pain from injury
• Not a treatment for dry eyes
• Not meant for general eye redness or irritation not related to raised eye pressure
• Should not be used to self-treat any eye symptom without a doctor's diagnosis

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging in the eye after applying
• Blurred vision for a short while
• Bitter or unusual taste in the mouth
• Watering or itching of the eyes

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dryness of eyes
• Redness of the eye or eyelid
• Headache
• Sensitivity to light
• Crusting on the eyelids

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Difficulty breathing, wheezing, or chest tightness
• Slow or irregular heartbeat, dizziness or fainting
• Severe eye pain, sudden vision loss or swelling around the eye
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue
• Unusual tiredness, confusion, or mood changes

How to Use DORTAS-T EYE DROP (Dorzolamide 2%w/v + Timolol 0.5%w/v)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only in the eye(s) as advised by your doctor
• Wash your hands before using the drop
• Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid gently and place a drop inside without touching the tip to your eye
• Close your eyes gently for a couple of minutes after applying and press lightly near the inner corner
• If using other eye drops as well, wait at least 5-10 minutes between different drops
• Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye, fingers, or any surface to avoid contamination
• Use it regularly at the same times each day as prescribed

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply the missed drop as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not apply two drops at once to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store as directed on the pack, usually in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
• Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use
• Discard the bottle after the period mentioned on the label once opened
• Keep out of reach of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have asthma or a history of severe breathing problems like COPD
• Have a very slow heartbeat, certain heart block, or uncontrolled heart failure
• Are allergic to dorzolamide, timolol, sulfonamide medicines, or other beta-blockers
• Have severe kidney disease (without doctor's specific guidance)
