Torsemide 20mg is mainly used to treat fluid retention (oedema) and high blood pressure.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Swelling of legs, feet or abdomen due to heart failure
• Fluid buildup caused by liver disease (cirrhosis)
• Fluid retention due to kidney disease
• High blood pressure, often along with other medicines

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts on the kidneys to increase the amount of salt and water removed in urine
• This reduces the extra fluid in the body, easing swelling and breathlessness
• Removing excess fluid also helps lower blood pressure

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain or fever
• It does not cure the underlying heart, liver or kidney disease, only manages fluid symptoms

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day in the morning
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food
• Try to take it at the same time every day to maintain steady effect
• Avoid taking it late in the evening as it may disturb sleep due to increased urination
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is already late in the day, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
