Uses and Benefits of EFFERVEN 600MG TABLET (EFAVIRENZ 600MG.)

Efavirenz is used for the treatment of HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection in adults and children, always as part of a combination antiretroviral therapy regimen.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of HIV-1 infection along with other antiretroviral medicines
• Helps control the progression of HIV infection to AIDS
• Used in both newly diagnosed and previously treated patients as advised by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Belongs to a class of medicines called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs)
• Blocks an enzyme called reverse transcriptase that HIV needs to multiply
• Lowers the viral load in blood and helps increase immune cell (CD4) count over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Does not cure HIV or AIDS completely
• Not used to prevent transmission of HIV to others
• Not effective against other viral infections such as flu or hepatitis
• Should not be used as a stand-alone treatment for HIV

• Difficulty breathing, swelling of face or throat (allergic reaction)
• Persistent vomiting or severe abdominal pain

How to Use EFFERVEN 600MG TABLET (EFAVIRENZ 600MG.)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Preferably taken at bedtime to reduce dizziness and drowsiness
• Take on an empty stomach, avoiding high-fat meals which can increase side effects
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Continue taking all other HIV medicines as prescribed along with this one
• Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Try to take your doses at the same time every day to maintain drug levels in the body

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to efavirenz or any other ingredient in the tablet
• Have severe liver disease
• Are taking certain medicines that interact seriously with efavirenz, such as some anti-epileptic or herbal products like St. John's Wort
