Uses and Benefits of ELOBETRA 5 Tablets (Elobixibat 5mg)

Elobixibat 5mg is mainly used to treat chronic constipation, especially when other laxatives have not worked well.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Relieving chronic constipation in adults
• Improving the frequency and ease of bowel movements
• Long-term management of constipation under medical supervision

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks the reabsorption of bile acids in the small intestine
• This increases the amount of bile acid reaching the colon
• Increased bile acid in the colon draws water into the gut and stimulates movement of the bowel, making stools softer and easier to pass

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for occasional or short-term constipation caused by diet or travel
• It is not a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea
• It is not used for constipation caused by a bowel blockage
• It should not be used as a general laxative without medical advice

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Abdominal pain or cramping

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It is usually taken once daily, before breakfast
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Try to take it at the same time every day for best results
• Do not increase or decrease the dose without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Skip the missed dose and take the next one at the usual time
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses frequently, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Keep the strip in its original packaging until ready to use
