Uses and Benefits of ENAM-D TABLET (ENALAPRIL 5MG + HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 12.5MG)

This combination medicine is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when a single medicine alone does not control it well.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Control of high blood pressure
• Used when blood pressure is not controlled by enalapril or hydrochlorothiazide alone
• Helps reduce risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems linked to long-term high blood pressure

HOW IT WORKS

• Enalapril relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking a hormone called angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure
• Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body, reducing blood volume and blood pressure
• Together they give better blood pressure control than either medicine alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for immediate relief of a hypertensive emergency
• Not a treatment for chest pain (angina) on its own
• Not to be used for weight loss or as a general diuretic without medical advice
• Not suitable for use during pregnancy

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Dry cough

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Muscle cramps
• Low blood pressure on standing up
• Changes in blood sugar or uric acid levels
• Skin rash

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing (angioedema)
• Severe dizziness or fainting
• Very low urine output or signs of kidney problems
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Irregular heartbeat or severe muscle weakness (may indicate high potassium or low sodium/potassium levels)
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as widespread rash or breathing trouble

How to Use ENAM-D TABLET (ENALAPRIL 5MG + HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 12.5MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well
• Continue regular blood pressure checks as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Keep in the original pack until it is time to take the medicine
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Have had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) to any ACE inhibitor before
• Are allergic to sulfonamide-derived medicines
• Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis, unless directed by your doctor
• Have very low blood pressure or severe dehydration

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have diabetes
• Have gout or high uric acid levels
• Are breastfeeding
• Are on a salt-restricted or potassium-supplemented diet
• Have had recent heavy vomiting, diarrhoea, or are dehydrated

• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
• Lithium
• NSAIDs (painkillers like ibuprofen) used regularly
• Diabetes medicines, as blood sugar levels may be affected
