Etamsylate 500mg is mainly used to control bleeding caused by weakness or leakage from small blood vessels, especially capillaries.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia)
• Bleeding after surgery, dental procedures, or minor operations
• Nosebleeds and other capillary bleeding
• Bleeding in premature babies affecting small blood vessels (under specialist care)

HOW IT WORKS

• It helps blood platelets stick together and strengthens the walls of small blood vessels
• It does not affect normal blood clotting factors, so it does not increase risk of unwanted clots
• It acts locally at the site of bleeding rather than throughout the whole body

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used to treat bleeding from large blood vessels or major arteries
• It is not a treatment for blood clotting disorders like haemophilia
