Uses and Benefits of FEBUSTAT 60MG TABLET (FEBUXOSTAT 60MG)

Febuxostat 60mg is prescribed for long-term management of high uric acid levels (hyperuricemia) that can lead to gout, a painful form of arthritis caused by uric acid crystal deposits in the joints.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in people with gout
• Preventing recurrent gout attacks by keeping uric acid levels controlled
• Sometimes used to prevent uric acid build-up in certain other medical conditions, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks an enzyme called xanthine oxidase which is responsible for producing uric acid in the body
• By lowering uric acid production, it helps prevent crystal formation in joints and tissues
• Regular use gradually reduces the frequency and severity of gout flares over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reactions with blistering, peeling skin, or mouth sores
• Symptoms of a heart problem such as irregular heartbeat

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• It can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Drink plenty of water while on this medicine unless your doctor says otherwise
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as it works best with consistent use over time
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may trigger a gout flare

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to febuxostat or any of its ingredients
• Are already taking azathioprine or mercaptopurine (increases risk of serious side effects)
• Have been advised against it due to certain heart conditions
