Ceftriaxone is used to treat various bacterial infections affecting different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections like pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Meningitis (infection of brain lining)
- Gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections
- Infections of bones and joints
- Abdominal and pelvic infections
- Prevention of infection before certain surgeries
HOW IT WORKS
- It stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall
- Without a proper cell wall, bacteria are unable to survive
- This leads to death of the bacteria causing the infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat viral infections like common cold or flu
- It is not effective against fungal infections
- It should not be used for infections known to be resistant to it
- It is not a painkiller or fever reducer on its own

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given as an injection by a trained healthcare professional
- It may be given into a vein (intravenous) or into a muscle (intramuscular)

- Complete the full course as advised by your doctor, even if you feel better
- Stopping early can lead to the infection returning or becoming resistant to treatment
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Since this is given under medical supervision, missed doses are managed by your healthcare provider
- Contact your clinic or hospital if you are unable to attend a scheduled dose
- Do not try to make up for a missed dose on your own
STORAGE
- Store as directed on the pack, usually in a cool, dry place away from sunlight

- Keep out of reach of children
