Uses and Benefits of FIONA TABLET (RALOXIFENE 60MG)

Raloxifene 60mg is mainly prescribed for postmenopausal women to prevent and treat osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak and fragile.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
• Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at risk of bone loss
• Sometimes used to reduce risk of invasive breast cancer in certain high-risk postmenopausal women, as decided by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Acts like estrogen on bone tissue, helping to slow bone loss and increase bone density
• Does not stimulate breast or uterus tissue the way estrogen does
• Helps reduce the risk of spinal fractures over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for relief of menopausal hot flashes or hot flushes
• Not used in men or premenopausal women
• Not a treatment for existing fractures or acute bone pain
• Not a substitute for calcium, vitamin D, or exercise advised by your doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Hot flashes or hot flushes
• Leg cramps
• Joint pain

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Swelling in legs or feet
• Flu-like symptoms
• Nausea
• Mild rash

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Sudden leg pain, swelling, redness or warmth (possible blood clot)
• Sudden chest pain or breathlessness
• Sudden vision changes or slurred speech
• Severe headache with weakness on one side of body
• Unusual vaginal bleeding

How to Use FIONA TABLET (RALOXIFENE 60MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water
• Take at the same time each day to build a routine
• Continue taking it for as long as your doctor advises, even if you feel fine

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is already the next day, skip the missed dose and continue as usual
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep in a dry place, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or could become pregnant
• Are breastfeeding
• Have a history of blood clots (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, retinal vein thrombosis)
• Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• Have severe liver or kidney disease
• Are still able to become pregnant (this medicine is only for postmenopausal women)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have a history of stroke or heart disease
• Are immobile for long periods, such as after surgery or during long travel
• Have liver problems
• Have a history of breast cancer
• Are taking hormone therapy or other medicines regularly

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Cholestyramine (a cholesterol-lowering medicine)
• Estrogen-containing hormone therapies
• Other medicines affecting blood clotting
