Flecainide is used to treat certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating certain fast or irregular heartbeats such as supraventricular tachycardia
• Managing certain types of atrial fibrillation, especially to keep normal rhythm after it has been restored
• Preventing recurrent episodes of certain arrhythmias in people with structurally normal hearts, as decided by a heart specialist

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks certain sodium channels in the heart muscle cells
• This slows down the electrical signals that cause abnormal, fast heartbeats
• This helps the heart beat in a more regular and controlled pattern

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for general chest pain or heart attacks
• It is not used for high blood pressure alone
