WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Fluid build-up (swelling in legs, abdomen, or lungs) due to heart failure
• Ascites and oedema caused by liver cirrhosis
• Fluid retention due to kidney disease
• As an add-on treatment for high blood pressure in some patients

HOW IT WORKS

• Frusemide is a strong loop diuretic that makes the kidneys remove extra salt and water through urine
• Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that also removes excess fluid but prevents the body from losing too much potassium
• Together, they balance fluid removal while reducing the risk of low potassium levels

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain or infections
• It does not cure the underlying heart, liver, or kidney disease, only manages fluid symptoms
• It should not be used for quick weight loss or without a medical reason

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Try to take it at the same time every day
• Avoid taking it late in the evening as it may cause you to wake up at night to urinate
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better
• Your doctor may ask for periodic blood tests to check potassium and kidney function

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
