Febuxostat 40mg is used to treat and prevent high uric acid levels (hyperuricemia) that lead to gout, a painful joint condition caused by uric acid crystal deposits.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term control of high uric acid levels in people with gout
• Prevention of gout flare-ups over time
• Management of uric acid levels in certain conditions where uric acid production is increased

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks an enzyme called xanthine oxidase
• This enzyme is needed to produce uric acid in the body
• By blocking it, febuxostat lowers uric acid levels in the blood
• Lower uric acid levels reduce the chance of new crystal formation in joints

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water

• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as it is for long-term control
• It may take some time before you notice the full benefit

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
