Uses and Benefits of GEMTIDE 600MG Injection (Teriparatide 600mcg)
Teriparatide is used mainly for osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak and prone to fractures.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture
- Treatment of osteoporosis in men at high risk of fracture
- Treatment of bone loss caused by long-term steroid (glucocorticoid) use
HOW IT WORKS
- It is a man-made form of a portion of parathyroid hormone
- Given in small daily doses, it stimulates bone-building cells (osteoblasts) more than bone-removing cells
- This leads to increased bone density and reduced fracture risk over time
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat sudden bone pain
- It is not used for treating fractures that have already occurred as a healing agent
- It is not recommended for children or young adults with open growth plates
- It is not used in patients with certain bone cancers or unexplained high calcium levels
