Teriparatide 600mcg

1 brand available

Teriparatide 600mcg is a form of parathyroid hormone used to treat osteoporosis in people at high risk of fractures. It works by stimulating new bone formation, unlike most other osteoporosis medicines which only slow bone loss. It is given as a daily injection under the skin, usually into the thigh or abdomen, as prescribed by your doctor.

Teriparatide 600mcg — Uses and Benefits

Teriparatide is used mainly for osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak and prone to fractures.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture
  • Treatment of osteoporosis in men at high risk of fracture
  • Treatment of bone loss caused by long-term steroid (glucocorticoid) use

HOW IT WORKS

  • It is a man-made form of a portion of parathyroid hormone
  • Given in small daily doses, it stimulates bone-building cells (osteoblasts) more than bone-removing cells
  • This leads to increased bone density and reduced fracture risk over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It is not a painkiller and does not treat sudden bone pain
  • It is not used for treating fractures that have already occurred as a healing agent
  • It is not recommended for children or young adults with open growth plates
  • It is not used in patients with certain bone cancers or unexplained high calcium levels

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
  • Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
  • If you miss a full day, skip that dose and continue with your regular schedule the next day
  • Contact your doctor if you miss doses frequently

STORAGE

  • Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C, do not freeze
  • Keep the pen protected from light
