Uses and Benefits of GENTICYN EYE DROP (GENTAMICIN (0.3% W/V))

This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections affecting the eye or ear.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Bacterial conjunctivitis (red, infected eye)
• Bacterial infections of the outer ear canal
• Prevention of eye infection after certain eye procedures, if advised by doctor
• Other bacterial eye/ear infections as diagnosed by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic
• It stops bacteria from making proteins needed for their survival
• This kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection
• It works only against bacteria, not viruses or fungi

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral eye infections such as common viral conjunctivitis
• Fungal eye or ear infections
• Allergic eye redness or itching without infection
• General pain relief in eye or ear without infection

Use it only for the condition and duration your doctor has prescribed. Do not use leftover medicine for a new problem without checking with your doctor.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or stinging after applying drops
• Temporary blurred vision after eye drops
• Itching or redness at the site of application

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Eye or ear irritation
• Watering of eyes
• Skin rash around the applied area

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe eye pain, swelling, or worsening redness
• Sudden vision changes
• Signs of allergic reaction such as facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or severe rash
• Persistent ear pain, discharge, or hearing changes

How to Use GENTICYN EYE DROP (GENTAMICIN (0.3% W/V))

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only in the eye or ear as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash your hands before and after applying the drops
• Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to instil eye drops, or tilt head sideways for ear drops
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to eye, ear, or any surface
• Use the exact number of drops and frequency advised by your doctor
• Continue for the full duration prescribed, even if symptoms improve

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
• Do not apply extra drops to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep the container tightly closed
• Do not use after the expiry date
• Discard the bottle after the recommended period of opening (check label) even if some medicine remains
• Keep out of reach of children
