This combination medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, usually when diet, exercise, and metformin alone are not enough to control blood sugar.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To control high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise as part of overall diabetes management

HOW IT WORKS

• Pioglitazone makes body tissues more sensitive to insulin, helping cells use glucose better

• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, indicating liver problems
• Vision changes or eye pain
• Signs of low blood sugar: shaking, sweating, confusion, fast heartbeat
• Unusual bone pain or fractures
• Signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling of face or throat

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Take at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady blood sugar control
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as diabetes needs long-term management
• Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor
• Keep taking other lifestyle measures like diet and exercise as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have known allergy to pioglitazone, metformin, or any ingredient in the tablet
• Have severe kidney disease
• Have severe liver disease
• Have heart failure or a history of heart failure
• Have active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer
• Are in diabetic ketoacidosis or a severe diabetic emergency

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any heart, liver, or kidney problems

• Drink alcohol regularly
• Are scheduled for surgery or an imaging test using contrast dye
