Uses and Benefits of GLUCORED TABLET (GLIBENCLAMIDE 2.5MG + METFORMIN 400MG)

This medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise and a single diabetes medicine are not enough to control blood sugar.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used when metformin alone does not give adequate control
• Given as part of an overall diabetes management plan with diet and exercise

HOW IT WORKS

• Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin
• Metformin reduces the amount of sugar released by the liver
• Metformin also helps the body's cells use insulin more effectively
• Together they lower blood sugar through two different actions

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis, an emergency condition
• Not a treatment for weight loss
• Not meant for occasional or as-needed use to lower sugar quickly
• Not a substitute for insulin when insulin is specifically advised by your doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea or upset stomach
• Diarrhoea
• Loss of appetite
• Metallic taste in mouth
• Mild low blood sugar (hunger, sweating, shakiness)

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Weight gain
• Skin rash or itching
• Weakness

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe low blood sugar with confusion, fainting, seizures or unconsciousness
• Symptoms of lactic acidosis such as unusual tiredness, muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, or feeling cold
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, throat or difficulty breathing
• Unusual bruising or bleeding

How to Use GLUCORED TABLET (GLIBENCLAMIDE 2.5MG + METFORMIN 400MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset and lower risk of low blood sugar
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor tells you to
• Take it at the same time(s) each day for best results
• Continue diet and exercise advice given by your doctor
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well
• Get your blood sugar and kidney function checked regularly as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you often miss doses, talk to your doctor about ways to remember

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep the tablet in its original pack until it is time to take it
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to glibenclamide, metformin, or sulfonylurea medicines
• Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have severe heart failure or recent heart attack
• Are going to undergo surgery or a contrast dye scan soon
• Drink alcohol heavily or regularly

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver problems
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are elderly or have a poor appetite
• Have a history of low blood sugar episodes
• Have any heart or lung condition
• Are due for surgery or a scan involving injectable dye

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other diabetes medicines and insulin
• Steroids and certain diuretics (water pills)
• Beta-blockers, which can mask low blood sugar symptoms
• NSAID painkillers used regularly
• Alcohol
• Certain antibiotics and antifungal medicines
