Uses and Benefits of ISMO 40MG RETARD TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 40MG.)

Isosorbide Mononitrate 40mg is mainly used to prevent episodes of angina (chest pain or tightness) in people with coronary artery disease.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of angina attacks in patients with heart disease
• Long-term management of chronic stable angina
• Reducing frequency of chest pain episodes on exertion

HOW IT WORKS

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels, including coronary arteries
• Improves blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle
• Reduces the amount of work the heart has to do, lowering oxygen demand

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used to treat a sudden angina attack that is already happening (fast-acting nitrates are used for this)
• Not a treatment for heart attack once it has started
• Not used for general pain relief unrelated to the heart
• Not a substitute for other heart medicines prescribed for blood pressure or cholesterol control

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache (often at the start of treatment)

• Blurred vision

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Fainting or severe dizziness
• Chest pain that worsens or does not go away
• Very slow or irregular heartbeat
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Severe skin rash or blistering

How to Use ISMO 40MG RETARD TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 40MG.)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is fine
• Try to take it at the same time(s) each day
• Take it with or without food, as advised by your doctor
• Do not stop taking it suddenly, as this can worsen chest pain

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, tell your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight
• Keep in a dry place, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to isosorbide mononitrate or other nitrates
• Are taking medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil
• Have severe low blood pressure or are in a state of shock
• Have severe anaemia
• Have increased pressure inside the skull (e.g., after a head injury)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have low blood pressure or are prone to dizziness on standing
• Have a recent heart attack or heart failure
• Have liver or kidney disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
